Swedfund are looking to appoint a new Investment Manager to actively work with the entire investment cycle within their Financial Inclusion team.
Swedfund’s investments within Financial Inclusion are largely in the form of debt to financial institutions and microfinance institutions as well as through private credit funds, supporting the sustainable growth of SME’s and entrepreneurs in underdeveloped regions. Working primarily in project form with other investment team members, comprising Senior Investment Managers and Investment Analysts, the role will collaborate across other Swedfund departments such as ESG & Impact and Legal, ensuring deal processes and portfolio investments are managed both effectively and aligned with Swedfund’s investment strategies. Alongside investment and portfolio management responsibilities, the role will also be involved in various business development/strategy associated projects such as market mapping and product development.
Main role-associated tasks:
Investment Managers at Swedfund enjoy the unique challenge and opportunity to apply and develop their investment skills via a mix of traditional Investment Management tasks combined with portfolio management and value-adding activities. Managing Swedfund’s investments, from early-stage screening, conducting commercial and financial due diligence, negotiations and developing investments throughout the entire holding period. The role will report to the Head of Sector and be supported by a team of analysts.
Investment Management tasks
- Perform financial, commercial and market due diligence; undertake modelling, valuations, and credit assessments
- Prepare and present quantitative and qualitative analyses for informed investment decision making
- Project manage the involvement of colleagues from other departments like ESG & Legal
- Procure and manage external consultants
- Support senior colleagues in structuring and negotiating transaction terms
Portfolio Management tasks (Monitoring & Value-adding)
- Monitor and engage with portfolio companies regarding performance and financials
- Act as Swedfund’s appointee on fund LPACs and similar entities
- Together with colleagues, work to increase the positive impact of Swedfund’s holdings via improvements in operational efficiencies, digitalization, governance, gender equality and sustainability
- Participate in exit processes
Business Development activities
- Create and maintain relationships with potential co-investors and investees
- Contribute to the development of sector strategies and business plans
- Coach and mentor Investment Analysts
- Build internal competence through workshops and internal expertise-sharing as well as contribute to growing Swedfund’s structure capital
Profile
Relevant candidates for the role shall have at least 5 years’ experience from working with investment processes within Investment Banking, Private Equity, Management Consulting, Corporate Finance, Transaction Advisory or similar, where the candidate has developed both their project management skills and -experience. This professional background, combined with your strong academic qualifications within Finance and/or Economics will ensure you have both the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in this demanding role. Any sector-specific experience is a plus but not a requirement.
Aside from project management experience covering all phases of the investment cycle, you have high level analytical, quantitative and company valuation skills.
Swedfund’s investments span over several continents, so professional levels of both Swedish and English are required, French is an advantage. Travel is required as active involvement and visits to the various markets/geographies where Swedfund has invested or is contemplating investment will be part and parcel of the role.
