Fighting poverty with sustainable investments
Swedfund is Sweden’s development finance institution with the mission to reduce poverty through sustainable investments in developing countries. We share the same goal as development cooperation in general, but the tools we use are different; we invest in the private sector and initiate feasibility studies and capacity building to cater for sustainable and investable infrastructure in developing countries.
We have two instruments to fulfil our mission: sustainable investments and technical feasibility studies through the Project Accelerator.
We play an important role in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement on climate change by contributing to the creation of decent jobs and increased access to essential products and services such as electricity, food, healthcare and digital business models. Our feasibility studies support sustainable public infrastructure development, trade and export opportunities for Swedish companies.

About Swedfund
As the Swedish Development Finance Institution, we are owned by the Swedish state and was founded back in 1979. Swedfund is managed by the Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation. The operations are financed partly through capital injections for which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is responsible and through reflows from our own portfolio.
Our mission is to fight poverty by making sustainable investments in developing countries. Last year, our investments helped to create 198,000 jobs and tax revenues of 5.5 billion in developing countries.
Today we are 90 co-workers with head office in Stockholm, Sweden and office in Nairobi, Kenya and Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.
