Investment Manager

Swedfund is looking to appoint two Investment Managers (one dedicated to the Energy & Climate sector and one dedicated to the Food Systems sector). The candidates will be based in the Abidjan office and reporting to the respective heads of sector, based at our headquarter in Stockholm.
The Energy & Climate strategy is to make direct (equity and debt) and indirect (e.g., through funds) investments into companies and projects focussed on, i.a., renewable energy, resource efficiency, digital infrastructure and nature-based solutions.
The Food Systems strategy is to make direct (equity and debt) and indirect (e.g., through funds) investments into companies and projects across the entire food value chain, with focus on local processing, input goods, logistical and storing as well as trade.
Main role-associated tasks:
The role will cover three main areas of focus, namely investment management, portfolio management / value creation and business development.
Investment management tasks
- Analyse potential investment opportunities aligned with Swedfund’s strategy
- Engage with the potential investee company, preparing and presenting analyses and decision materials for Swedfund’s investment team, Investment Committee and Board
- Perform financial, commercial, sector and market due diligence (including valuation analyses) as well as taking an active part in legal negotiations
- Project manage and coordinate involvement of colleagues from other departments, (e.g., E&S, Impact, Legal) and external parties
- Procure and actively manage external consultants
- Support the Senior Investment Manager in structuring and negotiating transaction terms
- Manage commitment and disbursement processes
- Mentor, support and coach Investment Analysts
Portfolio Management tasks
- Actively monitor and engage with portfolio companies in issues relating to financial and operational performance, sustainability, developmental impact and corporate governance
- In cases where required, engage actively with portfolio companies and internal and external stakeholders to manage special situations and proactively work towards solutions
- Assume responsibility for up-to-date information in Swedfund’s internal management systems
- Support and oversee Investment Analysts’ work in relation to, for example, periodical valuations, and any other portfolio work
- Provide periodic reporting on portfolio investments
- Proactively work to increase the positive impact of Swedfund’s portfolio companies through value-creating activities such as sustainability, operations, governance and exit processes
Aside from the above, the role will also provide support in various Business Development tasks, including but not restricted to;
- Market mapping
- Cultivating and effectively managing networking with external stakeholders, potential and co-investors
- Support generation of investment strategies, preparing forecasts and business plans
Profile
Relevant candidates up to this challenge will boast a minimum of five years’ experience from working with investment processes within Investment Banking, Private Equity, Management Consulting or Asset Management. This experience, combined with your strong academic qualifications within Finance and/or Economics will ensure you have both the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in this demanding role.
Prior experience with investments in the sectors is considered advantageous but is not a requirement. Strong transaction experience, regardless of sector expertise, is deemed more important – coupled with an interest in the specific sector.
Aside from your experience of project management covering all phases of the investment cycle, you possess good analytical, quantitative and valuation skills. Excellent French and English is required.

As the Swedish Development Finance Institution, we are owned by the Swedish state and was founded back in 1979. Swedfund is managed by the Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation. The operations are financed partly through capital injections for which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is responsible and through reflows from our own portfolio.
